77 Years of Al-Nakba

This year marks 77 years of Al-Nakba, the invasion of the nascent settler colonial entity known as “Israel.”

During the Zionist onslaught, over 500 towns and villages were destroyed, over 15,000 Palestinians were massacred, and over 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their indigenous homeland. The settlers, as they do now, conducted this violence indiscriminately. They killed children, razed villages to the ground, destroyed the indigenous wildlife, and weaponized sexual violence on a mass scale.

As the Palestinian Communist Party and Palestinian Communist Youth Union have stated:

[The Nakba] was the result of a settler-colonial project aimed at establishing a racist entity on the land of Palestine, through forced displacement, mass massacres, and ethnic cleansing policies.”

Today, these practices continue in the Zionist genocide and oppression of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and al-Quds, the remaining territorial pieces and holdings of the Palestinian nation. Today, we honor every Palestinian, adult and child, who has been martyred.

The people of Palestine survive today because of their never-ending militant resistance, which the Zionist forces have continuously failed to completely defeat since the beginning of their invasion. Today, we honor every Palestinian who has been martyred defending their land and people, and who continues to breathe life into the admired and adored Palestinian resistance.

Across the world, Palestinians, including many of their youth, reify the traditions of their ancestors, standing firm against oppression and colonialism in their cities, in their workplaces, and on their campuses. They have founded and taken up leadership over numerous movements and organizations that have valiantly fought to disrupt the machinery of settler colonialism and genocide.

Whether it has been through the encampments of student protestors, the stoppages of material support to the Zionist entity, or the boycotts of Zionist commodities, the countless successes of the anti-colonial movement, headed by the Palestinians, continues to inspire all oppressed peoples of the world who struggle alongside them for the mutual aim of liberation.

All of this has been done, and continues to be done, with the knowledge that settler-colonialism is fated to collapse. The indigenous peoples of the world, including those in Palestine, struggle and resist because they know that victory can be achieved in their lifetimes. As our fraternal Palestinian party has also proclaimed:

“the Nakba of our people can only end with the dismantling of the Zionist occupation and the establishment of an independent, democratic Palestinian state on the entirety of historic Palestine, with unified Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of refugees to their homes from which they were expelled, in accordance with UN Resolution 194.”

Today, the New York Young Communist League honors and draws inspiration from their unbroken struggle. We call on all the revolutionary conscious of the young masses to join us, organize with us, and learn with us as we continue to struggle for an arms embargo, the stoppage of material support to the Zionist entity, the cessation of genocide, and the liberation of the land and people of Palestine from their occupiers! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!
