Pride Month Statement from the NY Young Communist League

This Pride Month the New York Young Communist League emphatically calls on all progressive forces to place transgender and queer rights among the highest of demands in our resistance against US fascism, given its escalation of genocide against trans people and its assault on queer rights in whole.

We remember those who have been murdered during this genocide so far, especially Juniper Blessing, a young woman and student who was killed at the University of Washington this past May. She is one of more than a dozen trans people murdered in the past two months, part of that reactionary trend where murder of trans people have nearly doubledand where transgender people are over four times more likely to be victims of violent crime than cisgender people.

The killing of trans people—young, Black, and indigenous trans people in particular—is a national crisis which relies on both institutional and cultural forces, including in New York. In Hempstead, Long Island, the executive town government hasobstructed the implementation of a New York bill which updates state family law with inclusive language. Long Island and Brooklyn have been centers for the obstruction of state policies which would protect trans girls and women in school sports. In a nominally “blue” state, reactionary actors relentlessly pursue the persecution of trans youth in school bathrooms and locker rooms.

While Republicans lead this effort, many Democratic officials have offered little push-back. Though a rare few electeds may be pressured into fickle “allyship,” it is certain that queer  existence can only be reliably secured elsewhere...

To the Left movement :

We are facing counter-revolution and genocide.

The queer liberation movement, which broke through the American consciousness with the Stonewall Riots, must rally behind a program of unconditional support for trans existence and dignity. We must oppose all forms of chauvinism and reactionary ideology from so-called "progressives," “socialists,” “communists,” or “anarchists” who exclude trans and queer rights from their vision of revolution.

Queer masses have secured unparalleled equality in Cuba’s revolutionary family code, where any and all family models are accepted and protected in law. Through struggle, we will ensure our survival in the US as well. All youth and organizations must work hard to establish real self-defense of our communities.

We are in a time of crisis, but there will be revolution in our lifetime; the only path to victory is to challenge the fascist forces with an undying, unyielding working class resurgence of revolutionary organizing.
